First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. M'GHEE, Rev. ROBERT, A.M. (1789-1872) Minister of Harold's Cross Church, Dublin. Expository Lectures on the Epistle to the Ephesians. Dublin : William Curry, Jun & Co. First edition, 1846-47. Tall 8vo. First edition. 2 volumes. 486, 536 pp. Original old half leather binding with marbled boards. A good example of fine Victorian binding with titles rather worn on the spine. Raised bands. Contents clean, crisp and unmarked apart from neat previous owner's name on ffep of volume one. A nice old set of this uncommon first edition. Originally preached as a series of sermons, M'Ghee provides practical explanation and exposition of the text through a series of fifty-two critical lectures. M'Ghee moves verse-by-verse through practical application while drawing upon hermeneutics to clarify the intent of the passage. "Lively, warm-hearted, extemporaneous sermons, full of good teaching. The preacher aimed to edify the many, rather than to write a critical work for the few, and he has succeeded". - C.H. Spurgeon. Additional postage required for overseas.
