Chase. First published in 1909, this is the 1916 edition now with burgundy cloth-covered boards & the same brightly colored front paper pastedown as on the first edition. Octavo, in 136 pages, with a full-color frontispiece on glossy paper, 3 internal color plates, 2 pen-and-ink plates, + profuse other pen-and-ink sketches throughout. Condition is Good+/VG-: generally quite clean, completely unmarked save for old gift inscription in pencil to ffep (which we always leave intact). Light, random smudges throughout, mild foxing to plates. Binding strong & straight, but rear hinge is cracked. Exterior shows mild-moderate rubbing to extremities, bumping to both ends of spine & all corners, slight fraying to lower spine at rear joint.Colors bright, with light rubbing & creases to front pastedown. hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Acceptable. First Edition. Dust jacket is quite torn, in two pieces, chips, tanned and fragile - poor condition (now in Brodart sleeve). Red cloth boards with full size pastedown are worn at the extremities, damp stain upper right corner which goes through page 10, pastedown has two small chips bottom edge. Interior has aforementioned damp stain, stamped "Harper & Row reference library" front endpaper, page 9 torn right edge. All illustrations called for are present. 1909 first edition.
