Contemporary signature on front paste-down. 79 p., with all 16 original photographs. The photos are of a nude women in various poses; each approximately 7 1/2 x 4 3/4 in. [19.1 x 12.1cm]. Intended for art students, the nude photographs which were supposed to be removed and placed in front of the student has they drew. The author, Hugh McMillen Hutton (1897-1976), was an editorial cartoonist for the Philadelphia Inquirer for over 30 years.

Hardcover. Condition: g. First edition. Large quarto (9 x 11 1/2"). 79pp. Original full burgundy cloth with gold lettering to front cover. Written and conceived by Hugh McMillen Hutton, famous American illustrator and cartoonist, this book introduces the art of drawing the human figure from observation. This guide intended for Art students is complete with its 16 original photographs, which were supposed to be removed by the student before painting. Each original print is pasted, and measures appr. 4 3/4 x 7 1/4". Each displays the same nude woman in various positions, and has on its opposite page sketches to help the student "building up the figure from the foundation with the internal framework forming the basis of its outward appearance". Some age-wear on binding with staining/discoloration on spine and covers. Head and tail of spine slightly chipped. Corners rubbed and some fraying along edges. Previous owners' ex-libris and inscription on inside of front cover. Lower fore-edge of the first four leaves slightly chipped (not affecting lettering). Minor age-toning along paper margin. Pages somewhat rippled to to the glue used Binding in overall poor to fair, interior in good to very good, photographs in very good condition.
