Dem Anspruch, ein "Leitfaden zu Konfiguration, Integration und Einsatz" (so der Untertitel) für SpamAssassin zu sein, wird das Buch tatsächlich gerecht. []Immer wieder stellt man fest, dass der Autor sein Metier kennt und nicht nur eine bestimmte Linux-Distribution berücksichtigt.[] Das Buch ist trotz der Techniklastigkeit jederzeit gut lesbar und verständlich. Das kann man bei weitem nicht von jeder Übersetzung sagen. Und selbst das Covermotiv macht Spaß das hätte ich gerne als Poster! Insgesamt ein rundum gelungenes Buch iX, Juni 2005 [] Das knapp 300 Seiten starke Hardcover ist aus dem Blickwinkel der IT-Sicherheit up-to-date, als Leitfaden aufgebaut und als Referenz gut für den Alltag geeignet. [] Grundsätzlich ist das Buch jedem zu empfehlen, der die Spam-Flut mit professionellen Mitteln stoppen möchte - inklusive Privatanwender. Pillen brauche ich nicht, Hypotheken auch nicht, und enlargen möchte ich bei mir erst recht nichts. Also habe ich mir SpamAssassin installiert. Das Programm anzupassen, damit es noch besser sortiert, ist allerdings nicht so einfach. Ich kann zwar Schwellenwerte ändern, aber wann und in welchem Umfang ich das tun sollte, ist eine knifflige Frage. Da hilft der McDonald. Er erklärt mir, woran ich erkennen kann, dass ich etwas ändern soll, und sagt mir auch, wie ich das tun soll. Und das alles sogar leicht verständlich und nachvollziehbar. Mit den Tipps zur Leistungssteigerung konnte ich auch die Verarbeitungszeit meiner E-Mails drastisch reduzieren. Aber außer solchen konkreten Anleitungen bietet das Buch noch mehrHinweise zur Spamvermeidung, Wissenswertes zur Gesetzgebung, ausführliche Erläuterungen der Dienste, die SpamAssassin nutzen kann (RBLs, Razor u.a.). Damit ist es für mich auch dann noch wertvoll, wenn ich meinen SpamAssassin optimal eingerichtet habe. Alles in allemgut geschrieben, hilfreich in der Praxis und umfassend.
