2 volumes, Complete. First American Edition. 8vo, publisher's original light blue cloth, covers ruled in blind and with the spines lettered and ruled in gilt. viii, 668; viii, 654, 655-700 index pp. A very fresh and lovely set, internally very fine and with only the lightest of mellowing to the blue cloth. FIRST EDITION. A very extensive, scholarly, and yet readable account of this highly important crossroad in History. The author begins with a study of events leading to the Revolution, as early as the preceding century, and meticulously leads us through the entire event to 1791. The history of this popular uprising against tyranny that failed so utterly to establish a stable democracy should not be overlooked in our modern world where nations in all parts of the globe are still undergoing similar conflicts and tragically all to often producing similarly horrific results.
