Full-Leather. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Published in London in 1755, this is the first Edition of William Guthrie's translation of six of Cicero major works Offices (De Officiis): Cicero's final work on moral duties and the character of a leader. Cato Major (De Senectute): A famous treatise on finding happiness in old age. Laelius (De Amicitia): A deep exploration of the nature of friendship. Moral Paradoxes (Paradoxa Stoicorum): An explanation of Stoic ethical principles. The Vision of Scipio (Somnium Scipionis): A philosophical reflection on the afterlife and the soul. Letter concerning the Duties of a Magistrate: A guide for those in positions of public authority. Bound in an old full leather binding, 8 inches tall approx. 400 pages. Book bears the armorial bookplate of its original owner Charles Walmesley of Westwood. CONDITION The binding has some general edge rubbing wear, both joints cracked with some signs of a glue repair to upper joint, joint to rear board loosened but holding. Internally endpapers noticeably browned, mild browning to title page, some cockling of the paper within else contents in good general condition.
