First Edition. First Edition. INSCRIBED by the author on the front endpaper, "For Bruce and Beatrice Gould, who went on to bigger and better things, despite the Terrible Turk. With respect and admiration. Richard Maney." On the front pastedown is affixed a letter to Maney from Bruce Gould on "Ladies Home Journal" letterhead, dated "February 20, 1958," expressing Bruce's and Beatrice's enthusiasm and praise for "Fanfare." Bruce Gould and his wife Beatrice Blackmar Gould were co-editors of the "Ladies Home Journal" from 1935 through 1962. It was under their leadership that the magazine became the top-selling women's magazine in the country for nearly 30 years, largely due to their efforts to modernize the journal and broaden its subject matter for the emancipated woman. The pair co-wrote the autobiography, "American Story: Memories and Reflections of Bruce Gould and Beatrice Blackmar Gould," published by Harper and Row in 1968. Slightest lean, else Near Fine in a Very Good plus dust jacket. Jacket with toning at the spine, light foxing to the rear panel, and modest edgewear and chipping to the crown.
