Madame SWETCHINE (1782-1857) a souvent été appelée la "Marquise de Sévigné russe", tant elle a écrit de lettres. Orthodoxe convertie au catholicisme, elle avait créé un salon fréquenté par les plus grands penseurs spiritualistes de son temps. Parmi ses habitués et correspondants elle avait LACORDAIRE, et leurs écrits témoignent de ce que l'on a souvent appelé le "catholicisme social".
