In the original French, with prefatory material in English.A very scarce first edition thus, published by the Bannatyne Club. The introduction explains that this work contains a tract which was included in a collection of treatise now held at the library of the Faculty of Advocates.The work of Scottish courtier and Senator of the College of Justice Sir James MacGill, Lord Rankeillor.MacGill and John Bellenden prepared a short guide to Scottish law, in French for Mary, Queen of Scots, and Francis II of France. MacGill was a commissioner for the final negotiation of the Peace at the Kirk of Steill in May 1559, called the 'Treaty of Upsettlington'.Only fifty-two copies of this work were produced. In a quarter morocco binding, with paper covered boards. Significant rubbing to back strip and board perimeters. Significant fading to board perimeters, with handling marks to board centres. Hinges strained, with front hinge tenderly held. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally bright, with light handling marks throughout. Good. book.
