The book ends with a short list of poems and prose stories as suggested reading; this is followed by an interesting section of notes and suggested mental and written exercises for students. All in all it is a sweet item that should engage a reader, no matter their age. The book has suffered the indignities of times passage, being weathered and foxed and with a tape-mended dust-jacket. Please read our full condition report, below. TITLE : Animals All - An Anthology for Schools AUTHORS : Various EDITOR & INTRODUCTION : Alfred H. Body ILLUSTRATIONS : J. G. MacDonald IMPRINT : Cambridge University Press PLACE : Cambridge, England DATE : 1940 EDITION : First Edition STATUS : OP DETAILS : Trade hardcover; contains numerous vignette illustrations; has an Introduction [dated 1939] ; has a brief Reading List and a section of 'Suggestions and Exercises'; xii + 164 pages; dark blue cloth covered boards and spine; gilt lettering on spine; pictorial dust-jacket printed brown on buff. On the front panel of the jacket is the head of a cat. CONTENTS : * Friends of Man * Birds * Beasts * Insects and Vermin * Strange Creatures * Animals and Man * List of Poems and Stories about Animals for further Reading * Suggestions and Exercises * Alphabetical List of Authors CONDITION -- BOOK : VERY GOOD -- DUST-JACKET : FAIR -- This is a previously owned book that has been read and displays various signs of use and time's passage, with the following particulars noted :: EXTERIOR -- Fading and compression to the spine extremities; gilt title is still bright. boards display slight fading about the edges, and, at the top rear juncture of board and joint, slightly more extensive fading; bottom edges of boards are slightly shelf rubbed and also display a few minute dents; Text-block edges are considerably weathered and foxed. Else the exterior is clean. BINDING -- The book has been read and thus is not as tight as when issued, however the whole remains solid. There is a slight bow of the front board near the fore-edge. INTERIOR -- The end-papers are considerably foxed; There is a crease to the front free end-paper, which may or may not be a production effect. There is a surface crease on page 25 which is definitely a production effect. Basically the interior is clean and free of marking. DUST- JACKET -- The jacket has taken the brunt of wear, and has tape mends to the reverse side at the fold between the spine panel and the rear panel; another bit of tape is place (also on the reverse) at the top of the rear spine fold; there is loss to the head of the spine panels, as well as scattered edge tears and nicking. The jacket has considerable surface rub, toning, weathering and foxing. It is protected from further wear by a clear, mylar cover. J. G. MacDonald (illustrator).
