Please feel free to inquire as to particulars and/or additional photographs. . Sir Thomas James Babington Macaulay, Baron of Rothley generally known as Lord Macaulay, ( 1800 1859) was a British historian and Whig politician, who wrote extensively as an essayist and reviewer. His books on British history have been hailed as literary masterpieces. Macaulay held political office as the Secretary at War between 1839 and 1841, and the Paymaster-General between 1846 and 1848. He played a major role in introducing English and western concepts to education in India, publishing his argument on the subject in the "Macaulay Minute" published in 1835. He supported the replacement of Persian by English as the official language, the use of English as the medium of instruction in all schools, and the training of English-speaking Indians as teachers.

Seller: LA BookWorks, West Vancouver, BC, Canada
Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. The History of England (1848) is a five-volume work by Thomas Babington Macaulay, 1st Baron Macaulay (1800-1859), the English historian and politician. His history was a seminal work and continues to receive both praise and condemnation--praise for its brilliant, clear writing and condemnation for its one-sidedness (Whig). It covers the 17-year period from 1685 to 1702, from Oliver Cromwell to the death of William III. This is Volume I, which starts with Oliver Cromwell and ends with James II. This copy is in bright red leather with a gorgeous silver design. It is from Heron Books, which uses wood-free paper, although that is not stated here. Its only flaw is that the original owner placed a bookplate on the front endpaper. His/her name has been crossed out. You can either put your own label on top of that, or remove the plate (its easy--videos are available online). It has an bound-in silk ribbon which is undisturbed--this book has not been read, or even opened. It is pristine.
