The binding is strong and square, blue cloth over boards with slight fading to the top and bottom of the spine. There is a previous owner name at the bottom of the title page, otherwise the text is clear of markings. The dust jacket is chipped top and bottom of the spine and the top edge is chipped and worn. The jacket is now in a clear protective cover.

In 1920, MacAskill became a photographer for the Commercial Photo Service and by 1925 was the proprietor of this establishment. It was probably during this period that he met Elva Abriel, also a commercial photographer, who may have done some work for the Commercial Photo Service (C.P.S.). They were married in Enfield in 1926. Later MacAskill (1893-1956) became a world renowned Nova Scotia photographer who illustrated the romance of the sea as no one has done before or after. His photographs have won hundreds of national and international awards and may be found on walls throughout the world. Photograph mounted on thin beige board, folded to form Christmas card.
