A detailed manual written by the Lumière brothers on the use of organic substances as a photographic developer, specifically paramidophenol, commonly known as Rodinal. This was among their most important contributions to the field of photographic chemistry. Ten years later they introduced Autochrome color plates, the first commercially available color process. [++] Mentioning in this two-page note an earlier approach t the color photography question than their 1903-patented autochrome process. Curiously this note appears at about the same time as their introduction of the cinemataograph (the introduction of the "motion picture")with the first demonstration in public of the process taking place in 1907, and first reported in the Comptes Rendus in 1904. The Lumieres do mention the work of Charles Cros and Ducos du Haron, who presented their attempts at color photography to the French Academy of Sciences on 2 December 1867 (and 28 November 1868).
