Original Cloth. Condition: Good+. On offer is a super archive of one [1] published book being, a bilingual [English and French] 2nd edition, 'Pictures of Ruined Belgium' by Louis Berden, a relic of war-ravaged Belgium, with a tipped in handwritten note dated 1918 and an official calling card affixed to the front free endpaper, as well as some correspondence [9 pieces in total] tucked in loosely. The illustrated book appears to be a gift addressed to Maria D. Norris signed by Louis de Sadeleer, Minister of State, Senator, Former President of the House of Representatives, Member of the Special Mission sent to the President of the United States by His Majesty the King of the Belgians. Included is a handwritten letter on official stationery from de Sadeleer to Miss Norris dated July 6, 1917 (in French); a note to Miss Norris (Bristol, RI) describing de Sadeleer's experience with other ministers, telling the King about the Germans nearing Brussels in August, 1914 (in English and French); a postcard dated 1919 and several carbon copies of typed letters to and from de Sadeleer with Woodrow Wilson, Mrs. Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt, John Cardinal Farley, (S). M. Goor mostly dealing with the sad news and greetings regarding the death of de Sadeleer's son in the war. The book, a light rust colored cloth lettered in black, uncut edges, 245 pages plus plates is rubbed at the edges, front hinge lightly cracked but structurally sound, text block sound, endpapers foxed, plates very good, pages age-toned and a little brittle. Overall G+. The ephemeral items are all VG.
