Green boards with impressed titles on the front board and gilt titles on the spine. The boards are nice and clean, spine titles still clear and nice. Spine ends bumped slightly with just a touch of wear at the corner tips. I graded it down because it has a gutter split at the half title page, otherwise clean and unmarked. Paper toning just a bit, sound and square.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. Walt Louderback (illustrator). Reprint. Like many of this author's novels, this one is set in Cape Cod. It was first published by Appleton in 1917, and just because that copyright date is the only date in the book doesn't mean that this copy was published in 1917. In fact, this copy is a fourth printing published by arrangement with Appletons by the inexpensive reprint specialist, A.L. Burt. It is undated. The extremities are a little worn, edges are browned, spine is slightly faded, and there's an inscription (dated 1928) on front endpaper. Still a good to very good copy.

A great number of his works were turned into movies, several of which starred Nell Shipman as a brave and adventurous woman in the wilds of the north. Many films from Curwood's writings were made during his lifetime, as well as after his passing through to the 1950s. In 1988 French director Jean-Jacques Annaud used his 1916 novel, The Grizzly King to make the film The Bear. Published by Cosmopolitan Book Corporation, New York, 1923. Hardcover. A popular early 20th-century wilderness adventure novel by James Oliver Curwood, set in the rugged landscapes of the North and accompanied by period illustrations by Walt Louderback. The binding remains intact and the book is complete and readable, though the front hinge is starting to crack, with separation beginning between the front board and the text block at the interior joint. The structure is still holding, but shows early signs of weakening at this point. A small previous owner's name stamp appears in several locations toward the front of the book. Interior pages are otherwise generally clean, with a small margin stain affecting several pages toward the rear. The remainder of the text block is clean and sound. Overall, a solid reading copy with complete text and illustrations, showing typical handling wear and early hinge wear consistent with age.
