Moore, the author of "The Night Before Christmas." On the front pastedown of each volume is the small Fountain Lawn Library bookplate of coal baron La Fayette Butler, many of whose books were left untouched from the time of their purchase by him until their sale in the summer of 1999. Also tipped to the pastedown of the first volume is an old catalog description of these books. Mild toning to paper; light wear to cloth. Near Fine.

Condition: Fine. England, 1839. Two rare and important SIGNED MANUSCRIPT letters addressed to John Watt, son of James Watt, at Aston Hall, Birmingham by Lord Brougham at Brougham Castle, 1839. One a query as to who was the first to weigh the water produced by the combination of the two airs. Red seal. The other from London on Arago (the French astronomer, Francois Arago) and the Watt memorial. Both attended this event in Paris. Each letter one page, folded, dated and signed by Lord Brougham. Signed.

unbound. 1 page, 5 x 4.5 inches, no place, no date, circa 1820 -- a conclusion of a handwritten letter with a postscript (but complete in itself), in full: "Yours Truly, H. Brougham. You had better make your corrections of the proportion on a separate paper." Boldly signed and in near fine condition. British statesman and Lord Chancellor. He also designed the One Horse Brougham.
Single Page. Condition: Fine. March 4th 1833, Autograph letter by Henry Brougham, 1st Baron Brougham and Vaux to a Mr. Beaumont of Bradford. Written in the 3rd person, consistent with Brougham's style, this original letter presents his compliments to Beaumont and acknowledges receipt of a Petition from Bradford for the abolition of slavery. The Chancellor (Brougham) will take an early opportunity to present the petition to the House of Lords. Brougham was Lord Chancellor of England from 1830-1834 and is most well-known for being instrumental in passing the 1833 Slavery Abolition Act in August, which abolished slavery throughout the British Empire, 1833, a few months after writing this letter.
