Four vintage studio still photographs from a circa 1945 re-release of the 1939 film. Two photographs with National Screen Service stamps on the verso. The only feature film written by Langston Hughes, in collaboration with African American actor Clarence Muse, who also appeared in the film in the role of Uncle Caton. While Hughes and Muse intended to create a story about antebellum Louisiana with a more accurate portrayal of African Americans' role during the period, studio interference inevitably compromised their initial vision. Set in Louisiana, shot on location in Calabasas and Santa Monica, California. 10 x 8 inches. Very Good plus.

Vintage borderless publicity photograph from the 1944 film, showing actress Virginia Christine. Annotations in manuscript ink and pencil on the verso. From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901. Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and was the first still photographer to win an Academy Award. He went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures, where he worked well into the 1950s. After being unearthed due to an irrigation project, the mummy Kharis roams the bayou, searching for his lost love, Princess Ananka. The fifth entry in Universal's "Mummy" series, preceded by "The Mummy's Ghost." Set in the Louisiana bayou. 8 x 10 inches. Near Fine. Weaver and Brunas, Universal Horrors.

Vintage US half sheet poster for the 1945 film. Remake of the 1934 Universal film "Advice to the Lovelorn," that also starred Lee Tracy. Both films were based on West's novel, "Miss Lonelyhearts." Lee Tracy plays a radio announcer born with the inability to shut up, both a blessing (in terms of finding fame in the radio business) and a curse (in terms of constantly talking over his singer girlfriend while she is performing). He is eventually demoted to the position of writing a newspaper column for the lovelorn. 22 x 28 inches, folded. Very Good plus.
