First (1st) Printing ("February 1969" stated) of the first Modern Library Edition. A Modern Library Giant, G73. Previously published by Random House in 1964. Very Good in a Very Good+…Dust Jacket. The Text Block is clean, white, tight, straight and square with occasional marginal notes in ink, a few underlinings in ink and a stray ink mark on the fore-edge. The Binding is full charcoal gray cloth, color uniform throughout, with the publisher's logo in light gray on the front board, bright silver title, etc., to the spine, light beige endpapers with a partial book plate to the front endpaper and a 3/4" x 2" cutout from the top corner of the front free endpaper, and all corners square and sharp. The Dust Jacket is bright, colors uniform throughout, and mostly intact with a small chip off the heel of the spineand wear at the folds, with the original price ($4.95) intact on the front flap. See photos. xxxix, [i], 768, [iii] pages. 5 1/2" x 8 1/4". Translated by the eminent Constance Garnett, and edited by Leonard J. Kent, who also wrote the Introduction and Notes. This title was only printed by The Modern Library in 1969 and 1970. Only Dead Souls is excluded from the collection.
