This book chronicles the history of provincial assemblies and administrative divisions in France, particularly focusing on the period leading up to the French Revolution. The author traces the evolution of these assemblies, from their origins in the Middle Ages to their establishment as regular institutions in the 16th century. The book also examines the different systems of administration used in the various regions of France, including the role of intendants and the distinction between pays d'Ã lection and pays d'Ã tats. Through a detailed analysis of primary sources, the author provides a comprehensive overview of the administrative landscape of pre-revolutionary France, shedding light on the complex interplay between central and local authorities during this pivotal era.
