Toy Story is a 1995 American computer-animated comedy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The first installment in the Toy Story franchise, it was the first entirely computer-animated feature film, as well as the first feature film from Pixar. The film was directed by John Lasseter. The film features the voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, Jim Varney, Annie Potts, R. Lee Ermey, John Morris, Laurie Metcalf, and Erik von Detten. Taking place in a world where toys come to life when humans are not present, the plot focuses on the relationship between an old-fashioned pull-string cowboy doll named Woody and a modern astronaut action figure, Buzz Lightyear, as they evolve from rivals competing for the affections of their owner, Andy Davis, to friends who work together to be reunited with Andy after being separated from him. Toy Story premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles, California, on November 19, 1995, and was released in theaters in North America on November 22, 1995. It was the highest-grossing film during its opening weekend, eventually grossing over $373 million worldwide, making it the second highest-grossing film of 1995. it is considered by many to be one of the best animated films ever made. The film received three Academy Award nominations. This folio sized book, 128 pages measuring 14 X 11 , is in near-fine condition. There is a touch of wear on the top tips of the book. There is a partially removed sticker on the back of the book from Frontier College. Frontier College is a Canadian charitable literacy organization. First Edition Signed
Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Folio. An Incredible piece of Steve Jobs, Pixar, Toy Story and Hollywood history, signed in bold black marker by Steve Jobs and author/Director John Lasseter. This historic piece has provenance to one of the 40 founding employees of Pixar and was signed by Jobs at the Premier Opening of the Toy Story movie at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles on November 19, 1995. The book was handed out to attendees of the event, and this particular piece was given to the sister of Academy Award winner Tom Porter, one of Pixar's earliest founders and at the time an engineer for the company who also attended the event. Porter's sister, Dr. Judi Gieske, attended the event with her brother (Porter) and attempted to have Jobs sign the book. Jobs initially refused until he found out that Gieske was Porter's sister, after which he acquiesced. Porter, still at Pixar, is currently the Senior Vice President of Production Strategy for the studio, but at the time was an engineer for the company. He is listed in companion piece also given out at the opening as the Visual Effects Supervisor. He has received three Academy Awards for his work with motion blur, digital compositing, and digital painting. This piece is also signed by John Lasseter, the author of the book and Director of Toy Story, under his name after his introduction at the beginning of the book. Lasseter is listed as the Director of the movie in the companion piece. He has won two Academy Awards and his films have grossed more then $19 Billion. The companion piece, also given out at the opening, is a card-stock trifold with an Etch A Sketch theme, on which credits for the movie are listed. 3-D Toy Story image pastedown to front board. Square tight binding. Clean interior. Mild foxing on Lasseter's Introduction page, else Fine. Overall, a spectacular piece of Jobs and Hollywood history!
