A very scarce first edition thus, being the first edition of Grimm's classic tales to be translated from the German and edited by Margaret Hunt. Complete in two volumes.Volume I retaining errata leaf.Grimm's tales were first published in 1812, and were quickly established as classics of children's literature. This collection includes classic tales such as 'Snow-White and Rose-Red', 'Cinderella' and 'Little Red-Cap'.With an introduction from Andrew Lang, the noted creator of the children's 'Fairy Books' series.Margaret Hunt was best known for this translation of Grimm's tales.Bookplate of J. D. Kelson to front pastedowns, and Kelson's inscription to front free endpapers. In a half morocco binding, with cloth covered boards. Significant rubbing to back strip head and tail and joints. Head of rear joint of volume I and front joint of volume II starting, with boards just a touch tender. Front hinge of volume I starting but firmly held. Bookplates to front pastedowns. Inscriptions to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages just a touch age toned, with instances of light spotting. Very Good. book.
