Paperback. Condition: New. Emotions are among the most fundamental human capacities. They help us to adequately and quickly respond to environmental affordances of all kinds. Being capable of emotional responses we are inextricably attached to our natural and social environment. These tight emotional bonds to the world we inhabit are immediately conspicuous when we find ourselves in the grip of strong feelings like fear, love, hate or disgust. They are also present in all other kinds of emotions, for instance, feelings of awe, compassion or artistic enthusiasm. This volume tracks a variety of emotions in a phenomenological manner. It explores the intertwinement of cognitive content and feeling qualities of different emotions, their varying motivational and expressive qualities, their bodily manifestations, and social and moral implications. This focus on a phenomenology of emotion reveals the rich meaning of emotions that results from their embeddedness in our social and moral life. The authors describe the peculiar character of human emotions from the first- and second-person point of view of those subjects who undergo and regularly share these emotions.

(no dust jacket, as issued) [nice clean tight copy, with just a trace of scraping to the gilt spine lettering & border, slight bumping to top corners, small bookstore stamp on ffep]. (Twayne's Theatrical Arts Series) Series (B&W photographs) Critical survey of the work of ths important French New Wave director, featuring in-depth treatment of all his films from HIROSHIMA MON AMOUR (1959) through PROVIDENCE (1977). (Other prominent titles include LAST YEAR AT MARIENBAD and MURIEL.) He continued to make films after this book was published, of course (up until his death in 2014), but it's probably safe to say that his reputation and legacy were already established by the late 1970s. (The book's final chapter, in fact, is called "The Resnais Style Continues: Resnais' Legacy to the New German Cinema.") Following the format of this excellent series, the book includes a chronology of Resnais's life and career, a selected bibliography and a detailed filmography. Because most of the books in this series went to libraries, it's a bit hard to find clean, unmarked copies.

Add to basketStaplebound. Condition: Fine. First Edition. Octavo, unpaginated (16pp.), illustrated. About fine in the publisher's stapled pictorial wrappers. with just a few nicks to the spine. A very scarce publication, being an offshoot of an unidentified literary magazine based in Cambridge, Massachusetts in the mid-1960s. The majority of the internal text is a one-act play by Deloss Brown entitle "Friday Night," which seems to be a fictionalization of the events around Jesus's crucifixion. There are also a few drawings and photographs. We found no copies in worldwide library holdings, and none in commerce at the time of listing.
