Ex-library. Cream printed wrappers carry a Riverside Junior College library stamp at head and a diagonal WITHDRAWN stamp at upper ri…ght, with a small pencil notation alongside. Slits at head and foot of spine fold, a few small nicks and short tears along edges, and faint offsetting to the center of the front wrapper. Staple bound. Dampstaining to upper corners of every leaf, extending down the outer margin of the outer leaves and heaviest on the final page. Otherwise unmarked. Klauber was an executive at San Diego Gas and Electric, eventually its president, and at the same time the leading authority on rattlesnakes of his era, serving as the San Diego Zoo's first curator of reptiles. This paper is a product of both careers: in April 1931 and again in April 1932 he joined power company inspection trips to Hoover Dam, then under construction, and recorded the desert herpetofauna from the roadside, much of it automobile casualties. The two itineraries covered 1,130 and 1,205 miles through San Diego, Riverside and San Bernardino counties in California, Clark County in Nevada, and Mohave County in Arizona. He added Phyllorhynchus decurtatus and Crotalus scutulatus to the Nevada list, extended the recorded range of the arroyo toad 65 miles east of the divide, and reported the desert tortoise at eight Mojave localities.
