Rudyard Kipling's eulogy to King Edward VII on his death on the 6th May 1910. Kipling managed to have the poem written and published in eleven days. The eulogy is reminiscent of eulogies of medieval or Tudor Kings, rather than the constitutional monarch that Edward was. Kipling had a deep respect for the monarchy, and had also written a tribute to Queen Victoria when she escaped an assassination attempt in 1882.
Fine copy in slipcase The coloured plates are selected from a number of private and public collections and the black-and-white drawings from A Song of the English (1911) and Collected Verse (1910). First Edition of this selection of poems and with this selection of illustrations.
