He's also served as an Assistant Professor of Statistics at Princeton University (1979-1981), and held academic appointments at the University of Edinburgh, Oxford University, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and at the University of Kyoto. Dr. Jewell is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He received the 2012 Marvin Zelen Leadership Award in Statistical Science from Harvard University. He is the 2005 winner of the Snedecor Award from COPSS, and won the Distinguished Teaching Award from the University of California, Berkeley's School of Public Health in 2004.
