Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware -Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: sehr gut, University of St. Gallen, course: Doktoranden- (PhD) Seminar, language: English, abstract: Most literature on international R&D has employed a static and MNC-centered view, assuming some kind of evolutionary process by which R&D activities are internationalized, typically with some labs adapting products to local markets first, and whole research facilities being implemented on a world-wide basis last to finally profit from a 'global innovation network'. This article challenges such a view, asking for a thorough and critical investigation. It will be shown that there are many counter-examples questioning the traditional view of evolutionary development and 'optimal' organization that hovers around the 'centralisation - decentralisation' dichotomy. Instead, a look on several contingency effects and empirical phenomena is proposed to gain interesting insights as to the limitations of many traditional models. The case of Chinäs economic emergence provides a final illustration for these arguments. The conclusion shows how theoretical concepts known from other disciplines may serve as an analytical framework that can take into account more aptly the developments alluded.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 16 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware -Essay from the year 2001 in the subject Business economics - Accounting and Taxes, grade: A+, University of Warwick (Warwick Business School), language: English, abstract: The spectacular breakdown of Polly Peck impressively demonstrated the role of creative accounting in the 1980s. Although many companies were not doing well, creative accountants could easily deceive shareholders by manipulating figures. The Companies Act requires financial statements ¿to give a true and fair¿ (i.e., factual and unbiased) ¿view¿. This enables user groups to properly assess a company¿s financial position. If, however, accountants are free to arbitrarily manipulate figures, this becomes impossible. Therefore efforts had to be made to confine the extent of creative accounting.By defining creative accounting (section 2), a critical evaluation of measures (section 3) and the conclusion (section 4), this essay will show that the measures introduced by the ASB are powerful to contain present creative accounting. However, they will not prevent future creative accounting.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Neuware -Scientific Essay from the year 2001 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: A+, University of Warwick (Warwick Business School), language: English, abstract: After years of ever-increasing profits, the ailing British retailer Marks and Spencer (M&S) has fallen out of favour with British customers. Sales and profit strongly declined, followed by shakeups in the top management team. M&S faced extinction when confronted with Philip Green¿s takeover plans. Top management have made efforts to turn M&S around. The analytical approach to assess these efforts is as follows:Having evaluated turnaround models (Chapter 1), I will observe actions undertaken by M&S (Chapter 2), finally putting both sides together, determining if the actions fit the model (Chapter 3). Introducing competitive advantage as the measurement for success (Chapter 4), the conclusion (Chapter 5) will show that M&S is just one example for a problem that goes far deeper.Books on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 20 pp. Englisch.
