So kamen ab 1979 insgesamt 430 schwarze Kinder nach Deutschland-Ost. Insbesondere die ersten (und heute ältesten) verbrachten ihre ganze Kindheit in der DDR, gingen zur Schule, lernten Deutsch wie ihre Muttersprache, sangen deutsche Weihnachtslieder und wuchsen praktisch 'deutsch' auf. Im August 1990, wenige Monate nach der Unabhängigkeit Namibias und kurz vor der deutschen Vereinigung. wurden sie sehr kurzfristig nach Namibia gebracht - in ihre 'Heimat', die für sie jedoch ein fremdes, unbekanntes Land war. Entsprechend war der Kulturschock: Für die Schwarzen dort, oft für die eigenen Familien, waren sie Fremde, 'Deutsche'. Für die Deutschstämmigen in Namibia wiederum, zu denen es sprachlich keine Hürden gab, waren sie zwar überraschend 'deutsch', aber eben doch noch schwarz. Sie standen zwischen den Kulturen, zwei Welten. Was wurde dort aus ihnen Constance Kenna hat ihre Geschichte aufgearbeitet und vor allem eigene Beiträge der jungen Leute gesammelt, in denen sie ihre Erlebnisse und Eindrücke in der DDR, bei der 'Heimkehr' nach Namibia und in der folgenden Zeit selber darstellen.
