The follow-up volume to the author's 1934 "Ulysses S. Grant: The Great Soldier of America", this work focuses on the Civil War battles in which Grant did not directly take part, from the outbreak of the rebellion through Rosecrans campaigns and minor operations. Background Information: Robert Rutherford "Colonel" McCormick was an American lawyer, businessman and anti-war activist. A member of the McCormick family of Chicago, McCormick became a lawyer, Republican Chicago alderman, distinguished U.S. Army officer in World War I, and eventually owner and publisher of the Chicago Tribune newspaper.
