Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Illustrated Edition. 23 (of 25) vols, 12mo (5 1/8" x 3¼"), general title for each volume, printed & engraved portrait titles for each work. Lacks vols 14, & 23 (Burns Letters). Full period calf gilt, smooth backs in five gilt roll tooled panels, double lettering pieces, gilt volume numbers, corner & center ornaments. Sides with gilt double fillet & roll tooled frames enclosing blind roll tooled panels, marbled edges & endpapers. Very good solid set, lacking volumes 14 & 23. Some wear to edges & extremities. Joints strong. Many blank sheets excised (likely by an over proprietary previous owner to remove a prior owner's name) but without any damage to any titles. Sheets unusually clean & unmarked. Engravings with some offset & foxing. Scarce. H8359.
