Shulman's seductive compositions helped define the popular image of California, especially Los Angeles. Crystalline studies of lakes and boats, shots of Mexican pyramids and a traditional Norwegian house, lyrical photos of oil refineries and of Henry Moore's sculpture, exemplify his diversity.
