First edition of this informative and decidedly uncommon history, just two locations on Library Hub - British Library and National Library of Scotland - two copies also in the Imperial War Museum; WorldCat adds the Australian War Memorial and Australian Defence Academy (maps miscounted?), McMaster, Princeton, and Bayerische Staa…tsbibliothek. With the ownership inscription of Amédée Frederick Hubert Miéville, 1/9th Middlesex Regiment attached to the 53rd Infantry Brigade. "The first half of this attractively produced book is a brief narrative account of the Division's services in Mesopotamia from the time it disembarked through to the end of the war. There are listings of all its constituent elements, and this information alone makes the publication a useful source of reference. The second half is a roll of all the British officers who served with every British and Indian Army unit which came under the Division's command during that period" (Perkins). The bibliographer notes two issues, one as the present copy with the loose plates in a pocket, the other with only the frontispiece, it is not clear in all cases of the institutional holdings which issue is being referred to. Perkins p. 393 ascribed 4 in both rarity and value. Quarto. Mounted half-tone portrait frontispiece of the GOC, and 20 photographic illustrations, with ink-stamped numbers verso, contained in a loosely inserted envelope printed with the corresponding captions, 8 folding coloured maps. Original blue morocco-backed boards, title gilt to the spine, divisional Elephant device to the front board, top edge gilt the others uncut. A little rubbed, minor scuffing to the spine, two small puncture marks to the back board, hinges slightly cracked, free endpapers browned, pale toning of the contents, very good.
