Commonly known as " Smiths Key " it is the first of the "Sheffield Lists" plus additional material comprising twenty two pages of introductory notes followed by 12pps of facsimiles of new material followed by the facsim proper, ie The original 1816 publication. " The existence of the Key gives an invaluable detailed inventory of what was produced in this great center of the hard- ware trade. The work is divided into three parts, Part I comprising the rougher and cheaper line of products such as the tools for carpenters, joiners, coopers, curriers, farmers, etc. Part II is devoted to the cutlery trade - straight and folding knives, table ware, scissors, razors, candle snuffers, etc. - which doubtless formed the more lucrative part of the Sheffield trade. Part III, which is very brief, contains surgical and dental instruments. Quarto publishers brown linnen cloth.
