Dust jacket has modest edge wear and is not fitted over the boards correctly, otherwise about fine. "This book, in part, is scholarly for those whose interests run to the historical and statistical. But it is mostly intended for pleasure. It will help you escape, in your kitchen and your dining room to that place where it is always 1895." There is no contents page, written with chapter titles that offer historical and anecdotal narratives for each title. Chapters begin with Breakfast, and progress through Lunch, Tea, Dinner, and Supper, and then change theme for the last three chapters: Scotland and India, Sherlock Holmes on the Move, and finally Baker Street Meals and Menus where the many adventures introduced and offer a few related recipes. A few examples of these: The Five Orange Pips. Thursday, 29 September-Friday, 30 September 1887. Recipes: Clark Russell's Fine Sea Clam Canapes; Lone Star Stuffed Ham Steaks, and Orange Pips Sauce. The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle. Tuesday, 27 December 1887. Recipes: Roasted Stuffed Goose; Countess Crescents, and Commissionaire Peterson's Plum Pudding. More inspirational than instructional.
