Text on half-title: "Sculptura historiarum et temporum memoratrix. Das ist: Gedächtnüß-Kunst der merckwürdigsten Weltgeschichten Aller Zeiten von Erschaffung der Welt biß auf Gegenwärtige 1726." Title-page printed in red and black with vignette engraving. Decorative engraved initials, head- and tailpieces throughout. Christoph Weigel's authoritative work covers world history from the 1st century B.C. up until 1695. Profusely illustrated with 424 copper-engravings (approx. 2 1/4" x 2 1/2") on 44 pages and 4 leaves with numismatic engravings showing a total of 38 coins. Majority of illustrated pages with 10 copper-engravings depicting historical events (each page illustrating a decade), accompanied by two captioned squares with engraved decorative borders. The first edition of Weigel's important work was published in 1697. J. D. Köhler did the revisions for this 1726 edition. Text in German, gothic script. 7 page index ("Historien-Register") in rear. Age wear and staining on binding. Horizontal crease on free front endpaper. Bottom corner of first few leaves slightly bumped and creased. Small area on front-edge and bottom corner of title-page with chipping. Very minor foxing and sporadic finger-smudges on margins. 2" closed tear on bottom margin of page 251. Usual rippling to leaves. Binding in fair, interior in overall good to very good condition. Bibliographical references: "Erste Ausgabe der Köhler-schen Neubearbeitung und Aktualisierung."
