Jessie Marion King (20 March 1875 - 3 August 1949) was a Scottish illustrator known for her illustrated children's books. She also designed bookplates, jewellery and fabric, and painted pottery. King was one of the artists known as the Glasgow Girls. She was described in 1927 in the Aberdeen Press and Journal as "the pioneer of batik in Great Britain". Ernest Archibald Taylor (5 September 1874 - 20 November 1951), better known as E A Taylor, was a Scottish artist, an oil painter, watercolourist and etcher, and a designer of furniture, interiors and stained glass. This copy only has two illustrations by Jessie M. King (1 on front cover the other on title page) the others are missing or never bound in! Soft pictorial card covers in good condition with cracks down the spine but binding holding nicely. Inside a few cracks to spine but otherwise all pages in very good clean condition.

With eleven photogravure illustrations, those being with tissue guards having mostly light foxing and some foxing to the back of that page. The red boards have title, author and illustrator with a girl below in gilt and edged in green; slight wear to top and bottom of the spine. Jessie Marion King (1875 - 1949) was a Scottish illustrator known for her illustrated children's books. She also designed bookplates, jewelery and fabric, and painted pottery. King was one of the artists known as the Glasgow Girls. In 1892 she entered the Glasgow School of Art. As a student, she received a number of awards, including her first silver medal from the National Competition, South Kensington (1898). King was made Tutor in Book Decoration and Design at Glasgow School of Art in 1899. She continued to teach until her marriage to E. A. Taylor in 1908, and she chose, against the grain, to keep her maiden name. This is an extraordinarily fine piece of Arts & Crafts by a prominent woman in the movement.
