Manuscript / Paper Collectible
Condition: Very good. François Dufrêne, Plan de Hong Kong, Berlin, 1977. 292x202 mm. Collage work on the cover of Jeremy Adler's Towards the City, published by Writer's Forum, London, 1977. The design of the cover is by Bob Cobbing. The cover has been cut by Dufrêne to remove the saddle staples along the left edge. A ticket to a sound poetry festival in Belin (18th September 1977, 20.00 hours) is applied to the cover with glue. Written in pencil along the bottom and right edges in French: 'Plan de Hong Kong découvert tout á fait par hasard dans une brasserie autrichienne de Berlin par F. Dufrêne, un jour de septembre 1977. The plan of Hong Kong / The Hong Kong Plan was discovered by chance in an Austrian brewery in Berlin by F. Dufrêne, one day in September 1977.' The other visible writing on the cover is the signature of François Dufrêne in the centre and perhaps of another artist below. There are also faint but visible traces of other inscriptions and signatures on the cover. Sun damage has caused the ink to fade and other writing in unintelligible but seems to be written by different people. Condition: some general handling marks, age and light sun toning that has effected one of the inks used in the composition.
