The publisher's own retained copy with their stamps on feps and rear of d/w reading 'file copy.' . Neat number '65' on rear of d/w written there by publisher to note date of poblication. Novel set in modern day based on the legend of Tristan and Isolde as told by the 13th century poet Gottfried von Strassburg. When it appeared, it was likened to the work of Ivy Compton-Burnett and Elizabeth Bowen. Mainly a poet and a playwright, this was her only novel. Apart from writing, she was one of the few female officers to be employed by the Ministry of Information during the Second World War. She worked subsequently for M16, being one of the first female department heads. Spying is referred to in the book. Near fine in very good indeed dust jacket.
