In the course of his tragically short life, Theodore Chasseriau (1819-1856) revealed prodigious talents as a painter and draftsman. Even though Chasseriau's work has recen…tly begun to receive appropriate aesthetic analysis and historical study, his printmaking activity still remains relatively unknown. Between the years 1839 and 1851 Chasseriau made twenty-nine prints, eighteen of which relate to a single commission, his 1844 illustrations for Shakespeare's Othello.
