In diesem Band sind grundlegende und krankheitsbezogene Beiträge versammelt, deren Autoren in den letzten Jahren großenteils durch eigene Forschungsarbeiten zu diesen Themen hervorgetreten sind. Praktisch wichtige gerontopsychiatrische Erkrankungen werden im allgemeinen und im speziellen Teil des Buches unter verschiedenen Blickwinkeln behandelt. Die Darstellung der Krankheitsbilder folgt dabei Leitlinien der zehnten Revision der Internationalen Klassifikation psychischer Störungen (ICD-10). Die individuelle Handschrift der Verfasser ist deutlich erkennbar, etwas verwischt wurde sie lediglich bei den Übersetzungen des Herausgebers aus dem Englischen.
