Large square quarto, navy cloth with gilt spine titling, illustrated throughout with photographic plates. In original pictorial dust jacket. A substantial and highly regarded reference work covering European pistols, flintlocks, sporting arms, locks, barrels, mounts, and ornamentation of the 16th-18th centuries. The volume includes extensive photographic plates (including full-page figures) and a dedicated scholarly section on Scottish firearms by Whitelaw. Long considered a foundational collector's reference, the work blends technical analysis with connoisseurship and remains frequently cited in arms literature. Condition: Book is Very Good. Navy cloth clean and solid with minor shelf wear and light rubbing at lower edges; corners gently bumped. Binding firm and square. Interior clean, bright, and unmarked; plates crisp and well printed. No writing or bookplates observed. Dust jacket Good: complete but shows notable edge wear, creasing, short tears, and chipping at spine head and corners; moderate surface rubbing and toning. Copyright page states 'First published 1923' with 'This edition published by Bramhall House' and printer's line 'abcdefgh.' Bramhall House commonly used letter lines rather than number lines; the presence of the full sequence indicates an early printing of this Bramhall House reissue (not the original 1923 Holland Press issue).
