Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. BACK HOME IN ONEIDA HERMON CLARKE AND HIS LETTERS CIVIL WAR SOLDIER 1965. Quoting from the Foreword: The primary intent ofthe bookis to show through his own letters and an accompanying narrativehow a young upstate New Yorker, heir to the ways of peaceful farm and… village, grew into manhood during the one dangerous adventure of his life, the Civil War. And from the flap of the dust jacket: In August, 1862, Hermon, aged twenty-four, had set out from his father s farm near Waterville, New York, to enlist in the 117th. New York Volunteer Infantry. This small hard cover book (5 ¾ x 8 ½ inches, 212 pages) was published by the Syracuse University Press dated 1965 and the First Edition, with the same dated on title and copyright pages. There is a section of 8 pages of illustrations in the book but sadly with no photos or images of the young soldier who wrote these letters. Condition: This book is in near fine condition. The hard covers are pristine, without blemish or wear while the dust jacket, although price-clipped, is also in great condition, probably because it is encased in a mylar sheath. Inside, there are some bookseller s prices on the front endpaper, the remains of a price sticker and some light penciled notations. The rest of the book is without blemish or wear. Language: ENG.
