Contact seller4-star sellerSoftcover. Black color-illustrated wraps with french folds, 92 pp., profusely illustrated in color/bw. Issued in conjunction with a 1986 exhibition. Austrian architect and designer Josef Hoffmann once wrote: "We should start again at the very point where personal creativity had come to an end. Have we missed the possibility alre…ady? Didn't we have the same predecessors as they had in England?" This exhibition "is a collection of documented objects and furniture designed by those English 'predecessors.' Beginning with a piece of furniture designed by William Porden in 1822, the exhibition is arranged in chronological sequence and ends with a five-panel screen designed by Ceri Richards in 1955. The main body of the exhibition, not unnaturally, comprises objects designed and produced during Queen Victoria's lengthy reign. This was perhaps England's richest period of creative activity." (foreword) The illustrated catalogue addresses 211 items. VG, light shelf wear/bumps, front wrap bent slightly, light soiling on rear wrap, interior clean and tight.
