Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Printed in Great Britain. First printing. Volume I only. Folding Map as Frontispiece [plus three others], Preface, List of Principal Authorities, Introduction, Notes, Commentary on Books I-IV, Appendixes I-XV; xii, 446 pages. The original maroon cloth shows touches of rubbing at the extremities, with gilt lettering still clearly visible on the spine. Curiously, there was a misprint of "Books V-IX" instead of the correct "Books I-IV" and a previous owner placed a label over it---with only a residue remaining. [Visible in one of the five images of actual book.] The interior has remained bright throughout, except for the maps which show some spotting, mostly at the folds. [See the images.] There are several creases to the title page. Binding remains strong. "The commentary on Books I-IV, with the corresponding appendixes, has been written by Mr. Wells [who] prefixed short summaries of the subject-matter to the various sections of the notes. . . ."---from the Preface. As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly with tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking.
