He also worked regularly in Los Angeles, California, Reno, Nevada, Miami, Florida, and the Virgin Islands. On March 15, 1969, he became the fifth and last husband of actress/singer Judy Garland, who he was married to until her death on June 22, 1969, at the age of 47 from an overdose of barbituate. According to the author, Projection Control was originally published as a brochure (of thirty-pages) following its serialization in Camera Craft. Though noted on the verso of the title-page as the second edition, this was the author's first work presented to the larger public in book form, considerably expanded from the brochure, and the first of Mortensen's numerous publications on photography.
