Amiri Baraka (previously known as LeRoi Jones) founded Jihad Productions to promote Black literature and music. The anthology contains several poems under Jones's name, as well as works by Sonia Sanchez, Larry Neal, David Henderson, Edward S. Spriggs, Ben Caldwell, Q.R. Hand, and Joseph White. Introduction by the playwright and actor Yusef Iman. Cover by Bnjn.This copy is a third printing and is scarce in the antiquarian book trade. The anthology originally was published in 1966 as Afro-American Festival of the Arts Magazine followed by a second printing in 1967. The first two printings are nearly impossible to find outside of university special collections. PHYSICAL DETAILS: Octavo (8.5 x 5.5 inches; 217 x 140 mm), [52] pages, in stapled, decorated wrappers (soft cover) .CONDITION: Faint soiling and creasing to rear wrapper, bumping to corners, slight rusting to staples, but otherwise clean and unmarked. Easily Very Good or better.

Important booklet of poetry, short stories and plays from some of the key figures in the Black Arts Movement including Leroi Jones and Sonia Sanchez. It was originally published as Afro-American Festival of the Arts Magazine in 1966. This is the 3rd printing (earlier printings are extremely difficult to obtain). Most pages are clean and unmarked. A few have a bent corner or light crease. There is a water stain in the lower left corner of the front cover and lower right corner of the back cover which also lightly stained the book's first and last pages. The upper right corner of the front cover and upper left corner of the back cover are mildly bent. Very little wear otherwise. (Note: Photos may show a flash reflection.) PayPal always welcome.
