Publisher's catalogue at rear dated October 1874 (i.e. first issue). Spine sun-faded with wear to head and tail; leading internal hinge neatly reinforced; finger-marking to margins passim. First edition hard back binding in publisher's original decorative pictorial Tiffany blue cloth covered boards, blocked and lettered gilt back and front, publisher's sage and cream leaf patterned lining papers, all page edges gilt. 8vo. 8¼'' x 6½''. Contains frontispiece and additional title vignette, title page, 296 pp with full-page monochrome plates and many text throughout. From the private library and estate of Frank Williams with relevant family surname in black ink to the second title page 'To Willie Williams with kindest love | Christmas 1887 - E. R.'.
