Hardcover. Condition: Good. Frontispiece, 33 tissue-guarded engravings each accopmanied by 1-2pp. text, all edges gilt, paper boards, black cloth spine. Internally in good order but foxed throughout, a little browning to the page edges and some general wear. The 33 plates (2 more than mentioned in the title!) are in generally go…od order, but they are foxed and the last 5 have some brown damp staining. The boards, which have been professionally restored including a new cloth spine, new endpapers and strenghened corners, are a bit marked and scuffed. A richly illustrated guide to Chester and its buildings, containing 31 engravings by English artist and printmaker, John Romney. The plates show locations such as St. Michael's Church, Chester Cathedral, Grosvenor Bridge and the railway station, which opened in 1848 - just 5 years before the publication of this book. An uncommon, and delightful, title.
