Hinges are intact, textblock is square with pointed corners, deckled foot. Moderate overall book shelf/timewear, boardwear; foxing on inner boards, endpapers and textblock edges, faint edge patina throughout; considerable slipcover box wear, corner and edge wear, foot of box is missing, title badge is heavily chipped and abraded. Number 191 of 1,146 numbered copies, signed by Benton. Steinbeck's Pulitzer Prize winning novel of the Great Depression first appeared only the year before this Limited Editions Club edition, which remains notable for the beautiful lithographs commissioned from Benton, the smaller than usual printing, and the unusual and fitting rawhide and grasscloth binding.

Slipcase worn along edges; title label chipped and barely legible; soiling to edges and spotting to interior; remains structurally sound. Overall a Very Good copy; scarce with slipcase and wrapper.
