He went from Glasgow to London, where he taught Anatomy, practised Medicine and became the Queen's Obstetrician. He founded a School of Medicine, the first in London and the only one for eighty years. He made original observations in Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology. He exercised an important influence in Medicine, Obstetrics, Juris- prudence. He collected a great library, with examples of very many of the printed books of the fifteenth century and several hundreds of valuable ancient manu- script books. He amassed the second largest cabinet of ancient coins in the world. He left these collections to the University of Glasgow, along with his pictures, specimens and preparations, as a permanent foundation for the public benefit and the use of students and scholars of all time." Author's inscription to FFEP thus, "Tenovus - Scotland A small token of affirmation, Charles Illingworth" (Tenovus is a medical research charity). Shelf wear to unclipped dust jacket with closed tears to bottom, and some loss to top, of jacket spine. Light foxing to top edge of book. The book is otherwise in excellent condition. There are no other inscriptions and all contents are tight and clean. SIGNED COPY.
