He left behind some of the finest descriptions of the English landscape, its wildlife and its people. He was an acute observer of the natural scene and had a keen interest in many of the urgent social, political and industrial preoccupations of late Victorian England. In this book, the editor has selected some of Jefferies' most significant essays and extracts from some of his books, and provided a critical introduction and bibliography.
